Day... something. Lost track.

I am back. Everything's doing all right, pretty much. The dill sprouts could use some more water, but the Morning Glory is doing great, it's up to about five inches, four for the other one. The basil finally sprouted, but only one. I still may just get a basil start, but we'll see what I can do with this sprout.

More mold, but I'm not worried about it.

Day 11: Rosemary

The rosemary has poked up tiny little shoots. Nothing else has changed much.

I am going on a trip to my grandparents' house, so I shall be leaving my little seedlings in the care of my roommate. We shall see how they do. I hope that darn basil sprouts. If it doesn't, I'm definitely replanting some basil seeds when I get back. Or maybe I'll just get a basil start when I get my tomato and cucumber starts...

... but seeds are more fun. :)

Day 10: Still No Basil

  • Morning Glories over three inches and two inches
  • Two dill sprouts, 2.5 inches
  • Four lavender sprouts, .5 inches
  • One Cardinal Climber, 2 inches
  • One catnip, .25 inches
  • No chives, rosemary, or basil. Not worried about the first two, but basil.... hm.

Day 9: Things Are Getting Well In Hand...

  • The Morning Glory sprouts are 3 inches with two sets of leaves and two inches with a clump, respectively.
  • The lavender, Cardinal Climber, and dill sprouts are about one inch tall.
  • The catnip has sprouted,
  • So, I'm just waiting on the basil and chives. The chives aren't due for germination for a few more days yet, but the basil should be up by now! Maybe I'll have to start again with those, maybe plant them a little closer to the surface.

Day 8: Dill

Morning Glory sproutling #1 is up to about two inches, now! And the second sprout is almost an inch tall.

The dill has sprouted, as well. The seed packets said germination for most of the seeds was 5-7 days, so I'm hoping they pull through very soon!

Till then, here's a gardening joke:

Do you want to hear a gruesome story?
A farmer planted a pumpkin seed.
He watered it and cared for it very well,
and soon it grew some, and grew some ....

Day 6: More Sprouts

Another Morning Glory sprout!

At least it's been relatively sunny these days!!

Day 5: It's Aliiiive!

The Morning Glory has sprouted! Way early. I had good luck with this plant a few years ago, so I figured I'd grow at least ONE thing I'd have success with. Maybe it was the Tim O'Brien.

I spritzed the pots again. No more mold, thank the FSM*.

I also bought a neato clay pot that looks like a teacup. I think I shall put my Morning Glory in it, when the seedlings get big enough.

Day 3: Mold Attacks!

So the Morning Glory has a dusting of mold on it. Whitish greyish stuff.

Removed it. Spritzed the pots, opened the window to get some air circulation.

I also made them listen to Tim O'Brien. :)

Day 2: Seeds in the dirt

They are all snuggled into their compostable pots, in the sunniest spot I can get them to. The sun is there until about 2pm, so that's not bad.

Since there's not much else to report, maybe I'll reiterate my "grand edible (mostly) plant scheme."

I hope to have a pretty substantial herb garden, and try out a couple tomato and cucumber plants, for my first attempt at herbal gardening. I plan to buy two or three ginormous pots, instead of trying to weasel my landlord into letting me dig a bed outside my apartment...

Well.

This is probably going to be my least professional blog. I have a successful food blog, and am starting a political blog, but gardener...ing? I don't know anything about it.

Yet.

I figure, if you live in a place where stuff grows, you have no excuse but to... grow stuff. So I am.

Today I planted seeds! How thrilling. I chose to plant my herbs and flowers as seeds, and buy my tomatoes and cucumber as plantlings.

Seedwise, I have basil, morning glory, cardinal climber, dill, catnip, rosemary, chives, and thyme.
